Latest news from the world of construction product manufacture
- Construction and building materials company Aggregate Industries has become the first company to achieve a BES 6001 Responsible Sourcing Certificate from BRE Global. The BES 6001 framework standard is an independent certification scheme that assesses responsible sourcing policies and practices throughout the construction products’ supply chain. The universal rating system will enable architects, specifiers and construction professionals to meet sustainability targets more easily.
- Jablite has published a 200-page technical manual on insulation. Aimed at architects and specifiers, it is designed to demonstrate how to achieve the increasingly low U-values required for new and refurbished buildings, and contains detailed information on how Jablite insulation can be used within walls, roofs and floors.
- Rationel Windows has been awarded BFRC rating certification for its Domus and Aldus ranges. Although a U-value only indicates how much energy a window loses, and does not take into account how much energy it can gain, characteristics such as thermal transmittance, solar gain and air leakage are taken into account with the BFRC rating. The results are converted into grades A to G. Rationel’s solid timber Domus range achieved B, while the Aldus rated as high as A.
- The Concrete Industry Sustainable Construction Forum has published its first annual performance report. The report describes the sustainability performance of the UK concrete industry, the current action being taken and its future sustainability strategy, as well as case studies.
