Jamie Fobert Architects has won the competition to design a new extension of the Tate gallery鈥檚 outpost in St Ives, Cornwall
Following judging by a panel including Sir Nicholas Grimshaw, the firm beat rivals Tony Fretton Architects, 6a, DSDHA, Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios and Amanda Levete Architects for the gallerys 鈥楶hase Two Development鈥�.
The win is a reappointment for Fobert, who was originally appointed to the job seven years ago, a scheme that was derailed by public opposition.
The scope of the project has now been altered.
A spokeswoman for Tate said: 鈥淛amie Fobert Architects showed a cogent approach; with clear thinking shown about what the gallery requirements will be, balanced with the requirements of the wider community. The panel were impressed with all the candidates鈥� proposals, which were of a very high standard.鈥�
Tate will now work with Jamie Fobert Architects to refine the brief, the associated costs and the funding package.
