Engineer to design infrastructure for 'international wellness facility'
Mott MacDonald has won a major design and supervision role to the world's first "health island" in Bahrain.
Dilmunia Health Island, a $1.6bn (£960m) international wellness facility set on a 125ha man-made structure off the north-east coast of Bahrain, is likely to house a state-of-the-art diagnostic centre along with centres for nutrition and diabetes, cosmetic surgery, aesthetic medicine, women and children's health, alternative medicine as well as a sports medicine centre, hotels, shops and spas.
The consultant will design and supervise the construction of all infrastructure services, including roads, bridges, power networks, water, sewerage, a district cooling plant with associated distribution services and a canal.
Concept designs for client, Ithmaar Development Company, were developed last year. It is due to be completed in mid-2013.
