Metsec has supplied 32 long span, lightweight steel trusses along with Z-purlins and C-sections to support the roof of the Hub, a curved four-storey riverfront residential and retail development in Chelmsford.
The crescent-shaped roof was complicated to design and detail as the hipped ends and valleys were not square. This required the trusses and purlins to be set out to fit around a radius. The pitched lightweight steel trusses each span 15.5m and are 300mm deep at the shallow end, rising to 1400mm at the ridge to provide the 8° pitch. Most were delivered to site in two parts for ease of handling.
