Downing Construction has won two contracts with a combined value of 拢140m to build student accommodation in London and Manchester.

The Liverpool-based firm is owned by developer Downing and the contractor鈥檚 managing director Ian Orton said the wins would help the company鈥檚 turnover top 拢100m for the first time when its 2018/19 financial year ends.

The largest of the two student residential jobs is a 拢90m deal to build a 36-storey mixed-use development in Vauxhall, south London. It will include over 800 bedrooms and 40,000 sq ft of commercial space.

Its job in Manchester is a 拢50m deal that will include close to 800 bedrooms in a stepped building that will have 32, 10 and five storeys.

The firm is carrying out a number of jobs dotted around the country including an arts building for Leeds Beckett university as well as student accommodation blocks in Coventry and another scheme in the capital, this time over in west London.
