AHMM scheme goes in for planning

Great Portland Estate has submitted plans by AHMM for a 37-storey tower next to the Shard to Southwark council.

If given the green light, the scheme will see the demolition of  a 1980s office building at 20 Thomas Street with the 37-storey building on New City Court at London Bridge Quarter going up in its place.

The wider project team includes Alinea as cost consultant, project manager Gardiner & Theobold with Chapmans BDSP the M&E consultant and AKTII structural engineer.

A public consultation on the scheme is open until 14 February.

The tower will include a 250-seat auditorium and terrace on its 21st and 22nd floors and an elevated double height public garden within the building on the fifth and sixth floors.

The project will also involve restoring a listed terrace at 4-16 St Thomas Street and redevelopment of Keats House at 24-26 St Thomas Street.

There will also be a significant public realm work, including new access to the Borough High Street entrance to London Bridge Underground station.

Great Portland Estates and AHMM have previously worked together on the 19-storey 240 Blackfriars, the former home of ºÚ¶´ÉçÇø, which was built by Mace back in 2014.

Great Portland Estates says the New City Court scheme is one of 11 projects in its future development pipeline. Among the three schemes it is currently building is the £150m Hanover Square scheme in Mayfair being built by Mace and the £60m Oxford House scheme on London’s Oxford Street being built by Lendlease.
