Workers left in no mans鈥� land after subbie tells them they have no jobs

Ditched workers on a bioethanol plant in Hull have marched in protest after their employer told them they no longer had jobs on the refinery project.

About 500 workers and supporters marched through Hull today after employees were locked out of the plant building site.

Union GMB claims specialist contractor Redhall Engineering Solutions has not paid its 400 workers on the job for three weeks after it became embroiled in a contract dispute with client Vivergo Fuels.

Les Dobbs, regional officer of the GMB union, said: 鈥淚 believe the workers are being used as an industrial football because neither side will resolve the dispute.

Workers have rejected both a 拢3,000 and 拢3,300 redundancy pay-off from Redhall. Dobbs said the union will work to make sure workers are retained in the event that a new contractor is brought in to replace Redhall.

Dobbs said: 鈥淭he workers are fighting for their jobs, they鈥檙e not interested in a pay-off.鈥�
