Yorkon has handed over what it claims to be the largest UK hospital to be built off site

The Emersons Green NHS treatment centre in Bristol for independent healthcare provider UK Specialist Hospitals has been designed by architect TP Bennett to provide a range of elective surgical services, including in-patient treatment to NHS patients.

Facilities in the treatment centre include four operating theatres with recovery bays, a central sterilisation unit, minor operations room, endoscopy suite, diagnostics and x-ray, 33 in-patient beds, procedure and consulting rooms, waiting area, reception, cafe, pharmacy, physiotherapy and administration centre.

The three-storey 4,800m2 building comprises 114 steel modules up to 14m long, which Yorkon craned into position over three weeks to reduce disruption. The complete build time was eight months.

The treatment centre is externally clad in horizontal cedar with areas of terracotta, render and aluminium rainscreen cladding to contrast with the white steel modules and the glazed atrium.

The scheme is also the first application in the healthcare sector of the new Yorkon high-performance pre-installed concrete floor, which was used in the operating theatres to accommodate highly sensitive medical equipment.
