Deal expected to complete by end of April
WSP is hoping to beef up its town planning activities in the UK with the acquisition of Indigo Planning, a 90-strong consultancy with offices in London, Leeds, Manchester and Birmingham.
Founded more than three decades ago, Indigo Planning, which also has an office in Dublin, provides specialist advice in areas including residential, retail, commercial, industrial, leisure, infrastructure and regeneration.
WSP said the deal, financial terms of which were not disclosed, is expected to complete at the end of April.
It will be the latest for WSP, which last year bought US consultant Louis Berger for $400m (£304m).
Mark Naysmith, WSP’s chief executive, said the pairing with Indigo would result in one of the UK’s largest planning consultancies.
Recent schemes Indigo has worked on include securing consent for the refurbishment of Brighton Hippodrome and the £120m phased regeneration of Peabody’s St. John’s Hill estate, opposite London’s Clapham Junction station.
WSP is currently working on the deal to move MPs out of the House of Commons and into temporary accommodation while the Palace of Westminster (pictured) is being refurbished.
Last month it was replaced by Turner & Townsend as project manager on phase one of UCL’s new campus in Stratford.
