A Laing O鈥橰ourke worker on a construction site at Heathrow Airport has died after being struck by a lorry.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the incident at Heathrow Airport early this morning, after a man in his early thirties, understood to be a Laing O鈥橰ourke worker, was struck by a lorry near the site of the under construction Terminal 2 multi-storey carpark.

The man later died at the scene.

A Met Police spokesperson said: 鈥淥fficers attended and found a man in his thirties suffering serious injuries following a collision with a truck. The man - a pedestrian - died at the scene a short while later. Next of kin have been informed but we await formal identification.

鈥淎 post-mortem examination will be held in due course. The driver of the truck stopped at the scene. It is not believed that any other vehicles were involved.鈥�

鈥淭he Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has been informed and enquiries are under way into the circumstances surrounding the incident. No arrests have been made. Enquiries are ongoing.鈥�

A London Ambulance spokesperson said: 鈥淲e were called at 04.42 to reports of a road traffic collision involving a lorry and a pedestrian. Sadly, despite extensive efforts to resuscitate the patient, a man was pronounced dead at the scene by the doctor from London鈥檚 Air Ambulance.鈥�

Heathrow Airport and Laing O鈥橰ourke referred all enquiries to the emergency services.

The HSE confirmed that it has sent two inspectors to the construction site at Heathrow and that it was working with the police to investigate the incident.
