Modules for 拢24m student accommodation blocks in Wolverhampton will be supplied by VMS and Fleming Developments
Construction is underway on a 24-storey tower built using modular units in the heart of Wolverhampton.
The student accommodation has been designed by O'Connell East Architects of Manchester and features the main tower as well as low-rise units, which will provide 657 student bedrooms plus 142 post-graduate student apartments.
The tower is claimed to be the tallest in Europe to be built using modular units.
Vision Modular Structures, working in partnership with Fleming Developments UK, are manufacturing and installing the modular units for the 拢24 million scheme. It will install a total of 805 modules over 27 weeks with completion due this September.
Jenny Hayes, architect at O鈥機onnell East Architect鈥檚 said: 鈥淢odular construction was identified early on as key to the successful and timely delivery of this scheme. As a 鈥榯urn-key鈥 manufacturer, the VMS system helps reduce the amount of time spent on-site thanks to rapid-assembly and a streamlined supply chain from the factory.鈥
VMS鈥檚 modular units are manufactured utilising integrated structural steel framing with solid concrete floors 鈥 making them suitable for construction of apartments, student accommodation, hotels and hospitals. Furthermore, the integrated structural design facilitates the assembly of buildings up to 24-storeys without the requirement for a secondary structural support system.
