According to Spelthorne Borough Council, the leisure centre will use 60-70% less energy than a typical modern leisure, following in the footsteps of the pioneering St Sidwell’s Point in Exeter.

Willmott Dixon joins architect GT3 as well as Passivhaus expert Gale & Snowden on the project, located in Staines-upon-Thames.

The team also includes Gleeds as project manager, M&E engineers Van Zyl & de Villiers, Engunuitti as structural engineers and Faithful & Gould as cost managers.

The 100,000ft2 Spelthorne Leisure Centre will have a high quality astroturf sports pitch on the rooftop, a sports hall, a gym and a range of swimming pools, as well as a mini-spa, studio space, a climbing centre and a community cafe.

Groundworks are set to begin shortly, with an expected completion date of 2024.
