HB Reavis plans to knock 1960s Elizabeth House down and rebuild it
The developer set to rebuild a 1960s office block next door to London鈥檚 Waterloo Station has poached a senior project director at Argent to become its new construction director.
Joe Martin starts at Slovakian-based developer HB Reavis this August after more than five years working on Argent鈥檚 King鈥檚 Cross redevelopment in central London.
Martin (pictured), who spent close to two decades working at Kier, ending up as the firm鈥檚 pre-construction director on major projects, will be in charge of HB Reavis鈥檚 jobs in the capital.
The firm, which acts as a developer and main contractor, is about to complete an office scheme at 20 Farringdon Street designed by Denton Corker Marshall. The new building has been built opposite Goldman Sachs鈥� new European headquarters, being constructed by Multiplex.
HB Reavis鈥檚 deputy chief executive Radim Rimanek said: 鈥淸Martin鈥檚] expertise with projects of large scale and complexity is what we need for our ambitious future developments in London.鈥�
HB Reavis bought the building at Waterloo, called Elizabeth House, last May for 拢250m and at the end of last year replaced David Chipperfield with new architect AHMM to carry out work. The 945,000 sq ft already comes with planning.
AHMM is the third practice to work on the site this decade, with Chipperfield winning a competition in 2010 after Allies and Morrison鈥檚 original Three Sisters proposal bit the dust amid a row about protected views.
HB Reavis is also developing Poland鈥檚 largest tower, the 310m tall Varso Place scheme in the country鈥檚 capital Warsaw which has been designed by Foster + Partners.
