The competition watchdog has decided not to refer Kier鈥檚 proposed takeover of services firm May Gurney to the Competition Commission.

In a statement today, the Office for Fair Trading said it had decided, on the information currently available to it, not to refer Kier鈥檚 proposed 拢221m acquisition of May Gurney, which was announced last month.

Kier鈥檚 offer for May Gurney trumped Costain鈥檚 proposed 拢178m merger with the service firm.

The decision comes after the OFT had last month said it required extra time to examine the proposed acquisition, setting a deadline of 10 June to consider the proposals.
