Departing Andrew Grainger to remain involved with development of UCL East campus
University College London director of estates Andrew Grainger is stepping down after nine years in the role.
But Grainger is set to continue working for University College London (UCL) on its new Stratford campus (pictured).
A spokewoman for UCL said: 鈥淲e confirm that Andrew Grainger, director of estates, is leaving after nine years, however he will be staying on in a part-time basis and will continue to be involved in the very successful UCL East programme.鈥�
She said Grainger鈥檚 role would be filled through normal recruitment procedures but was unable to provide a timeline for his replacement.
The UCL鈥檚 Stratford campus was given the green light last month, with London mayor Sadiq Khan signing off on the project.
Work is expected to get underway on the first phase of UCL East early next year, with five firms including Laing O鈥橰ourke and Sir Robert McAlpine set to find out this summer who has won the 拢200m deal to build Marshgate I at the east London campus.
The pair are joined on the shortlist by Lendlease, Mace and Bouygues with all five picking up tender documents in mid-March.
UCL East, which is being built close to Zaha Hadid鈥檚 aquatics centre, is part of the wider Olympicopolis cultural and arts project on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park first proposed by former London mayor Boris Johnson.
The neighbouring Stratford Waterfront project for Sadler鈥檚 Wells theatre, the London College of Fashion and the V&A museum is being designed by Allies & Morrison, O鈥橠onnell & Tuomey and Arquitecturia.
