Erection work starts at new 拢60m Npower wind farm after crane problems cause slight delay
Erection of the turbines at a new wind farm on the Kent-Sussex border is to begin today after a slight delay caused by problems with the giant crane lifting the components into place.
Work erecting the 26 giant turbines at the 拢60m Walland Marsh wind farm being built by Npower Renewables on Romney Marsh was delayed for 24 hours until this morning.
In preparation for the assembly of the 115m-high turbines, the German-made propellor blades had been transported in 78 lorries across Kent from Chatham docks.
Two turbines will be erected every week until the end of September, with operation to commence early next year.
Once online, the wind farm, which received planning approval in 2005 after local opposition and a public inquiry, will generate enough electricity to power 33,000 UK homes.
