Leeds council approves expansion of West Yorkshire's international airport

A 拢28m extension to Leeds Bradford international airport has been given the green light.

Leeds City Council approved plans for a two-storey extension featuring a new departure lounge, retail units and an expanded security zone.

The completed scheme will have an immigration facility, a larger baggage reclaim area and more circulation space in the terminal.

The consultant team which won planning comprises WYG Planning & Design, Pascall + Watson, Halcrow and Davis Langdon.

Sue Ansbro, planning director, WYG, said: "The decision by Leeds City Council to support the scheme means that the airport鈥檚 vision for the extension will go ahead and improve one of Yorkshire鈥檚 most valuable transportation hubs."

John Parkin, Leeds Bradford International Airport鈥檚 chief executive, said: "We are now able to enhance the original vision of the consortium of local councils who previously owned the airport to develop LBIA. We are committed to the transformation of the airport to assist the region鈥檚 economy by encouraging inward investment and creating more jobs."
