Skanska and Kier are among shortlisted firms for 拢1bn redevelopment of New Covent Garden Market

Six developers have made the shortlist for the 拢1bn redevelopment of London鈥檚 New Covent garden market.

Covent Garden Market Authority is seeking a developer for The Garden, a redevelopment of the New Covent Garden Market in Nine Elms, south London. The development will include a new market and a mixed-use scheme, including homes, offices and a hotel.

The six selected parties are:

鈥 St. Modwen
鈥&苍产蝉辫;厂迟补苍丑辞辫别
鈥 The Garden Development Partnership with Skanska

Each will take part in the competitive dialogue process starting in August and running until early next year, when the shortlist will be cut to three. 

Baroness Brenda Dean, chairman of Covent Garden Market Authority said: 鈥淐rucially this project will be delivered with no call on Treasury funds 鈥 it will be entirely funded via our asset base and we are therefore delighted that in these testing times we have attracted this level of interest and look forward to working with these parties through the next stage of the process.鈥

A planning application will be submitted to Wandsworth Council in late 2010.
