Grainger/Helical Bar scheme beats off stiff competition for King Street site in West London

Sheppard Robson has beaten Wilkinson Eyre and Barton Wilmore to the 拢100m redevelopment of King Street, Hammersmith.

A consortium led by Grainger and Helical Bar was named as the preferred development team for the town hall site in West London.

The architects鈥 plan involves recreating a public square around the Grade II listed town hall, providing a mixed-use development with 290 new homes, shops and offices, and building a new bridge across the A4 connecting King Street to the river Thames.

Councillor Mark Loveday, Hammersmith and Fulham cabinet member for strategy, said: 鈥淭his is a vital project for Hammersmith and it must be of the highest quality. Too many of these schemes in the past looked tired almost before they were completed. I want future generations to be proud of the town hall and after months of detailed analysis the proposals from Grainger/Helical Bar were clearly the outstanding choice."
