Controversial design by Enric Miralles wins despite 拢390m overspend on budget.
The controversial Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh has won the RIBA's Stirling Prize, the biggest award in UK architecture.
The award, presented in Edinburgh on Saturday night, was bestowed on the design by Enric Miralles and RMJM even though the building spiralled hugely over budget, shooting up from 拢40m to 拢431m.
The Scottish Parliament beat off competition from The Jubilee Library in Brighton by Bennetts Associates with Lomax Cassidy + Edwards, the BMW Central 黑洞社区 in Leipzig, Germany by Zaha Hadid Architects, the Lewis Glucksman Gallery in Cork, Ireland by O鈥橠onnell + Tuomey, Foster and Partners' McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, and Alsop Design's Fawood Children鈥檚 Centre in Harlesden.
