Mansell winning bid for care home contract 10% lower than council expects

Councillors in north Scotland were stunned when a winning bid for a care home in Carnoustie came in 10% lower than they expected.

Angus council awarded the contract to Mansell after its 拢6.7m bid beat rivals Muirfield, Robertson, G&J Seddon and Galliford Try.

Councillors said they were surprised at the low level of bids and had expected prices to come in at the level of the most expensive bid from Galliford Try, at 拢7.3m.

A council report stated: 鈥淚t was originally anticipated that the tender returns for this project would have been in line with the tender figure provided by the fifth placed contractor.

鈥淒ue to the current volatile state of the construction market tender prices have been difficult to predict and this is indicated by the prices received from the five contractors.

鈥淭he general level of pricing contained within the lowest offer is considered to be very competitive having regard to the nature, specification and extent of the work involved.鈥

Work will start on the site later this month.
