Discussions will centre on building and fire regs

Britain鈥檚 leading health and safety organisations are set to hold talks with ministers about Britain鈥檚 building and fire regulations, in the aftermath of the Grenfell Tower disaster.

Arrangements are currently underway to arrange the meeting, where representatives from the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, British Safety Council and Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents will be among those present

This comes just weeks after an open letter to Prime Minister Theresa May, supported by more than 70 organisations and individuals, demanded that she 鈥渟crap the government鈥檚 approach to health and safety deregulation and think again鈥.

Speaking during a debate in the Lords yesterday last week, business minister Lord Prior agreed that the government should meet with the safety industry. He said: 鈥淭he awful tragedy of Grenfell Tower will make us rethink these issues and I hope it will change the culture that surrounds the way we look at regulation.鈥
