Engineering firm changes name to 'mark its successful integration' with Danish parent

Engineering firm Ramboll Whitbybird has dropped the names of its founders from its title and will from today be known simply as Ramboll UK.

Whitbybird merged with the Danish Ramboll Group in 2007, and the firm  said today鈥檚 announcement marked its 鈥渟uccessful integration with the Ramboll group鈥. Both chief executive Mike Crane and chairman Mike Whitby will remain in their positions.

The change of name comes 26 years after Mark Whitby and Bryn Bird started up the firm as Whitby & Bird. It later rebranded simply to Whitbybird, but took up its parent鈥檚 name after its acquisition, thought to be for around 拢100m, in August 2007.

Compared to some of its rivals, the company鈥檚 parent is in relatively good health financially speaking. In its most recent set of results, the Ramboll Group announced turnover of 5,639.8 million krone (拢676m) with pre-tax profits of 357.7 million krone (拢42.8m). Its British division is working on projects including the Tate Modern extension and the refurbishment of BBC Broadcasting House.

Whitby said: 鈥淥ur clients can continue to rely on our talented engineers, our energy and unique engineering approach but now we have more. More services, more skills and we have become a serious contender globally with some impressive multi-disciplinary projects already underway.鈥
