Take-off proof roofs
Russell Roof Tiles has been working with property consultant Phoenix Beard on a roofing maintenance programme for Birmingham International Airport’s Vortex Protection Scheme. The scheme provides new roofing to any property suffering vortex damage – damage caused by air currents from aircraft – so durable tiles and fittings have to be specified. The fixing specification involves the nailing and clipping of each tile to the roof structure, followed by a dry fixing system from Russell. On a recently completed first phase project for 17 homes, Double Roman tiles in Cottage Red Smooth finish were specified.

Under the ridge
Moulton Roofing specified Klober Roll Fix for the ridges of two Bellway Homes projects in Milton Keynes and Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, to help meet a new NHBC standard. The standard recommends mechanical fixings for ridge tiles at gable ends and over separating walls, as required by British Standard 5534:2003. The Roll Fix vented-ridge system meets this criterion, as well as being air and vapour permeable, and installable in a single operation requiring no special tools or wet trades.
