Project includes office and residential space and could create up to 3,500 jobs

Peel Land & Property has submitted an outline planning application to Medway Council to transform part of Kent鈥檚 Chatham Docks into a 拢650m mixed-use development.

The proposed Chatham Waters scheme would see 26 acres of brownfield land redeveloped to provide office space, education facilities, an 鈥楨ventCity鈥, and a hotel alongside apartments and townhouses, plus landscaped public areas and a food store.

Peel believes the project could create up to 3,500 jobs.

A public consultation held in September to gauge public opinion revealed that 90% of those questioned supported the scheme, while 95% felt it would provide a boost to the local area.

James Whittaker, development director at Peel, said: 鈥淭he feedback we received at the public consultation was invaluable and we are very pleased that so many people were supportive of our plans for Chatham Waters. We have taken the comments received on board and are pleased to have submitted a planning application to the Council.鈥

The firm is being advised by planning consultants Indigo Planning, the Traffic Transport & Highway Consultancy, landscaping specialists Planit-ie, and 5 Plus Architects.
