It鈥檚 a dangerous life working at the headquarters of health and safety


The Times on Saturday said that it had obtained data through the Freedom of Information Act which showed that 500 accidents occurred at the headquarters of the Health and Safety Executive in a three and a half year period. According to the Times it equates to one incident almost every two working days and far exceeds sectors including heavy industry, farming and vehicle repairs. One minor injury was reported after someone walked into a warning sign.

Heritage fakers hold builders to ransom


The Sunday Times reported that the Euston Trust, which claims to campaign to protect Britain鈥檚 architectural heritage, accepted a secret payment of 拢10,000 to drop its objections to a 拢16m development in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset.

Generator in talks with rivals to build new reactors


British Energy, the nuclear generator, has held talks with Europe鈥檚 largest power companies about building a new generation of nuclear reactors in the UK, the Independent on Sunday reports. According to the newspaper, the company has had meetings with executives from the French group EDF and German group RWE, which owns npower in the UK, ahead of next month鈥檚 publication of the Government鈥檚 White Paper on energy. E.ON is also understood to be involved.

Rate rises start to cool homes market


The Financial Times said the three interest rate rises since August had stabilised the house market and began to narrow regional differences, according to its house price index. Annual house price inflation was 鈥榖roadly鈥 stable at 6.9% in January with house prices rising just 0.7%.
