The Olympic Delivery Authority makes more key appointments for the construction programme of the 2012 Olympic Games
The Olympic Delivery Authority has appointed Arup director Simon Wright to oversee the infrastructure and utilities work.
Wright, who starts in August, will be responsible for the delivery of environmental, geotechnical and civil engineering packages as well as infrastructure.
He will also be in charge of commissioning and securing operator licences for water and sewerage, gas and electricity.
Meanwhile, Lawrence Waterman, the chairman of safety consultant Sypol and pioneer of occupational health scheme Constructing Better Health, was appointed as head of safety at the ODA on Wednesday.
Waterman is to emphasise the responsibility of architects for safety by telling all designers to conform to specially developed safety design guides.
The revamped guides will be based on documents written by the Design Guides Working Group, which are aimed at ensuring compliance with legal design requirements.
It is understood that Waterman wants the guides to be introduced as a standard reference on all Olympic projects.
It was also confirmed this week that Ascot construction chief Howard Shiplee has been appointed director of construction for the 2012 Games, as first revealed in ºÚ¶´ÉçÇø magazine last week.
