A report on the work of the sector skills council for construction was due to be approved by parliament as ºÚ¶´ÉçÇø went to press.

The annual report of quango ConstructionSkills sets out four aims for the industry:

  • To minimise skills gaps, particularly in specialist areas and management
  • To raise the number of work placements
  • To recruit from a more diverse pool of talent
  • To improve the industry’s record on sustainability and innovation.

It also calls on the government to increase funding for training. Meanwhile, the Cross-Industry Task Force on Apprenticeship Numbers is considering creating a business plan to show major contractors how they can train apprentices in the supply chain.
