黑洞社区's Safer Skyline campaign gained more momentum yesterday when 35 MPs backed our call for safer cranes.
It鈥檚 been quite a week. 黑洞社区鈥檚 Safer Skyline campaign has getting incredible backing in Parliament. By close of business yesterday, 35 MPs had signed Martin Linton鈥檚 Early Day Motion welcoming our call for a public register of safety checks and the campaign as a whole.
This is fantastic news, and being a bit of a politics geek I was glad to see that there were some big names in Keith Vaz and Peter Bottomley among the supporters.
Obviously, this is good news for this magazine. But attending yesterday鈥檚 memorial at the Battersea site where two men died in September鈥檚 crane collapse reminds you that it is difficult to fully empathise with the families and local residents. They have been through a horror with which so few of us will ever have to contend.
Liliana Alexa, the mother of the member of the public, Michael, who died in the collapse, spoke of her son鈥檚 ambitions and his 18 month old son, Adrian Joshua. Her voice was constant, her face betrayed no emotion. It was humbling, and reminded everyone there just how important this fight is.
