The historic college is building a new Herzog & de Meuron-designed building in Battersea
Mott MacDonald has been appointed as the lead consultant on the Royal College of Art鈥檚 (RCA) new 拢108m education facility at its Battersea South campus in London.
The consultancy will provide building services, civil, structural, fire and acoustic engineering as well as strategic brief development and cost consultancy on the Herzog & de Meuron-designed project
Mott MacDonald has appointed Equals as a sub-consutlant to provide project management services.
The 180-year old university is aiming to expand its offering beyond its art and design subjects to become a 鈥楽TEAM鈥 (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) university.
It is looking to expand its research into connected cities, robotics, the internet of things and intelligent mobility, sustainability and mass migration.
Henry Luker, technical director at Mott MacDonald, said: 鈥淧rojects like this don鈥檛 come along very often. We鈥檙e looking forward to working with the RCA and Herzog & de Meuron to deliver a world class new building that will benefit all the students at the university for generations to come.鈥
Herzog & de Meuron won the competition to design the new campus in November last year
