Wood Lane station is among 拢200m of transport improvements around 拢1.7bn shopping centre
Mayor of London Boris Johnson unveiled 拢200m worth of transport infrastructure at the opening today of the 拢1.7bn Westfield shopping centre in Shepherd's Bush.
The mayor joined London Underground managing director Tim O'Toole, Westfield UK chief executive Michael Gutman, and Hammersmith and Fulham council leader Stephen Greenhalgh at the new Wood Lane tube station on the Hammersmith and City line, the first new station built on an existing line for 70 years.
Other transport improvements in the area include a rebuilt Shepherd's Bush Central line station, a new White City bus station next to Wood Lane tube, a refurbished White City Central line station, four new cycle routes, 570 secure cycle parking spaces and upgraded pedestrian routes with new crossings.
Johnson said: 鈥淭his huge investment in infrastructure will help to boost the London economy and will make life better for the people of west London, who will see the real benefits of an unprecedented improvement in public transport.鈥�
The transport improvements were funded by the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, which invested 拢170m, and Transport for London, which provided 拢30m.
London Underground's O'Toole said: 鈥淭he completion of these world-class transport links in the borough makes it one of the best connected in London, which is great news for local people and businesses.鈥�
