Sir Bob Kerslake among nine board members to advise on Olympic Games legacy programme
Boris Johnson, mayor of London, today announced the appointment of a legacy board of advisers for the 2012 Olympic Games.
The board, which will be chaired by David Ross, deputy chairman of The Carphone Warehouse, will advise on all aspects of the legacy programme for London.
In particular it will consider proposals for establishing a separate vehicle to secure development and investment from the private sector.
Johnson has said he wants to establish this funding vehicle in 2009.
Other members of the board include:
• Sir Bob Kerslake, recently been appointed as the first chief executive of the new Homes and Communities Agency (HCA)
• David Gregson, part-time chairman of Phoenix Equity Partners
• Harvey McGrath, chairman of the London Development Agency and vice chair of the Mayor of London's Skills and Employment Board
• Jeremy Newsum, executive trustee of the Grosvenor Estate
• Julia Peyton-Jones, director of the Serpentine Gallery
• Jules Pipe, mayor of Hackney
• Tessa Sanderson, Olympic gold medalist in the javelin
• Richard Sharp of Goldman Sachs
• Neale Coleman is the Mayor of London's advisor
Johnson, said: "The Olympic Park can and must be a landmark district of 21st century London that builds on the electrifying excitement and global recognition of the Games themselves. This cannot be achieved without robust business and delivery plans, and a clear understanding of what will inspire private investors to make a long-term commitment to the area.
"I’m looking to David Ross, supported by this new Board, to act as the legacy champion bringing together people from many different backgrounds and ensuring we make the most of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. On behalf of all Londoners, I am grateful that they have agreed to help with this important job."
