Dumper truck overturned on site of new bottling plant in Fife

A man has died after his dumper truck overturned at a Rok site in Fife.

Police were called to the scene at 12.50 yesterday afternoon after the truck overturned on the Banbeath road site, Leven, where Rok are building a new bottling plant for drinks company Diageo.

CPR was administered to the man but he could not be saved. Police said his next of kin have yet to be informed.

The man is believed to have been a subcontractor.

In a statement, police in Fife said: 鈥淎round 12.50pm today (Thursday, 26th August) officers were alerted to the report of a dumper truck within the building site at Banbeath Road having overturned.

鈥淧olice are currently working closely with their partners in the Health and Safety Executive and with executives of Diageo as the incident is investigated.

鈥淭he enquiry is at an early stage, with the next of kin yet to be informed of the death. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in Kirkcaldy outlining the circumstances of this tragic incident.鈥�

A Rok statement said: 鈥淓veryone at Rok would like to express deepest sympathy to the family of our colleague who died in this tragic accident.

鈥淲e have taken immediate steps to close the site and will be providing support to any member of the team affected by this sad news. We would like to thank the outstanding police officers who administered CPR.

鈥淲e will now be working with the Police, Procurator Fiscal and Health and Safety Executive so the circumstances surrounding this tragic accident can be ascertained.鈥�
