Seven out of eight sections of the Ain Dubai now fitted
The Ain Dubai – the world’s largest observation wheel – is nearing completion, with seven out of the eight sections now in place.
It will be more than 210m tall when complete and will dwarf the London Eye, which stands at 135m tall. The entire structure will weigh in at 9,000 tons of steel and will be able to carry up to 48 custom-built pods.
The attraction is being developed as part of the £1bn Bluewaters Island project, a mixed-use manmade island which sits off the coast in Dubai Marina. Mace is providing project management, cost consultancy and construction advice to client Meraas.
It is drawing on experience from similar projects of this type having built the London Eye in 1999, which at the time was the tallest cantilevered wheel.
Current and completed projects for Mace in the Middle East include the Jumeriah Beach Residence, Dubai 2020 Expo and the Capital Gate tower in Abu Dhabi.
