黑洞社区 work finishes on PFI project for mental health and learning disabilities
MAAP Architects has unveiled its 拢75m mental health facility at St Luke鈥檚 Hospital in Middlesbrough, which in early March.
Roseberry Park, the largest mental health project recently constructed in the UK, was delivered under PFI by consortium members John Laing, Laing O'Rourke, WSP 黑洞社区 and Desco.
The facility comprises 312 inpatient beds for mental health, learning disabilities and forensic services for adults and older people.
The design focuses upon the individual patient experience, breaking down the accommodation into a number of 鈥榟ouses鈥 arranged around large activity gardens and courtyards to create an architecture of enclosure without fences.
Mungo Smith, MAAP director, said: 鈥淭he challenge on a project of this size is to make an environment that is safe, legible and user friendly. The integration of architecture, art and landscape offers a range of experiences to support people in various stages of treatment and recovery.鈥
