Construction completed on 拢160m Guy鈥檚 Hospital cancer centre
Laing O鈥橰ourke has completed construction on a 拢160m cancer centre at Guy鈥檚 Hospital in London.
The 14-storey building was handed over by the contractor to Guy鈥檚 and St Thomas鈥 NHS Foundation Trust on Monday.
The project will now move into the fit-out phase and is expected to be open to patients in the autumn.
It will be fitted out with medical equipment which will include six linear accelerators 鈥 the first radiotherapy machines in Europe to treat patients above ground.
The new cancer centre will bring together most treatment into one building 鈥 currently cancer care is provided in 13 different locations in eight different buildings on the St Thomas鈥 Hospital and Guy鈥檚 Hospital sites.
The centre will also include an Innovation Hub, which will be the focal point for cancer researchers from King鈥檚 College London, and a drop-in information and support service for cancer patients and their families.
The project was designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners and specialist healthcare architect Stantec.
Arup provided design engineering services, while main contractor Laing O鈥橰ourke built the cancer centre and led the project team.
