Firm beats Mace and McAlpine to land mixed-use scheme

Kier is being tipped to land a 拢50m mixed-use scheme set to go up close to Tottenham Court Road Crossrail station in London鈥檚 West End.

The firm is understood to have beaten Mace and Sir Robert McAlpine to become preferred bidder for the two-stage tender for developer CO-RE which is masterminding the six-storey block with M&G Real Estate.

Designed by Stiff + Trevillion, the scheme will include 60,000 sq ft of office space

The win is a coup for Kier and its restructured construction team which includes new recruits David McKenzie, who joined from Aecom earlier this year as head of its London building business, and former Laing O鈥橰ourke commercial director Nicola Kelly who arrived over the summer as commercial projects director.

Designed by Stiff + Trevillion, the scheme, called Fitzrovia W1, will feature 60,000 sq ft of Grade A office space and 8,000 sq ft of retail, as well as eight homes that will be accessed by a private entrance on Morwell Street.

The job is expected to be finished in the second half of 2024 with Crossrail, now known as the Elizabeth line, which stops at Tottenham Court Road, finally expected to be up and running by the middle of next year.

Others working on Fitzrovia W1 include QS Gardiner & Theobold.
