Work to build two Wilkinson Eyre-designed stands
The £52m redevelopment at Lord’s cricket ground will reach a major milestone next Monday, with ISG and the Marylebone Cricket Club set to break ground to mark the start of building work.
Two new three-tiered stands, designed by WilkinsonEyre, are being built over the next two years.
The works have been scheduled so as to take place after the Lord’s Ashes test, which wrapped up on 18 August, resulting in a draw.
The redeveloped Compton and Edrich stands, which will be connected by a walkway round Future Systems’ Stirling Prize-winning media centre, are scheduled to be completed in time for the start of the 2021 cricket season.
They will increase the capacity of Lord’s by 2,600 - taking it to 31,000 in total.
In addition to improving the sightlines and reducing the number of restricted view seats, the new stands will be accessible to the disabled and include new toilets as well as integrated catering facilities and lifts to all levels.
Other firms working on the redevelopment include Arcadis for cost management, Buro Happold for civils, and Gardiner & Theobald for project management and principal design.
It is the second part of the MCC’s long term masterplan to overhaul Lord’s, which completed its first phase when the redeveloped Warner Stand opened in 2017.
