Construction firm beats five rivals to work on Wilkinson Eyre-designed crossing over town harbour
Hochtief has won an 拢18.5m deal to build Poole's Twin Sails Bridge, which will provide a second crossing over the town's harbour.
Construction is expected to start in early summer and is scheduled to take 20 months. The client on the job is the local authority Borough of Poole.
Jim Bright, strategic director at the Borough of Poole, said: 鈥淲e received extremely competitive bids from six construction companies who were keen to be involved with the project. Each bid scored very highly in terms of quality and cost, demonstrating the construction industry's desire to be part of such an exciting and iconic project.
鈥淲e have a world-class bridge design which symbolises Poole's ambition. With the appointment of Hochtief now confirmed, we have an internationally renowned partner with a strong track record in construction excellence.鈥
The bridge was designed by architects Wilkinson Eyre, which was also responsible for Gateshead's "blinking eye" Millennium Bridge, and engineering and environmental consultant Gifford.
