For designers looking to meet level three and beyond of the Code for Sustainable Homes, Polypipe Sanitary Systems has launched a micro greywater recycling system.
The Ecoplay recycles bath and shower water for re-use in toilet flushing and is claimed to reduce the fresh water needed for toilet flushing by up to 30%.
The unit is similar in size to a traditional concealed in-wall cistern. It collects water from the bath and shower in a tank, where light materials such as foam and hairs are skimmed from the surface and heavier materials such as dirt and sand sink to the bottom. The 鈥渃lean鈥 water is then transferred to another storage tank from where it can be gravity fed or pumped on demand to the toilets. The unit has a storage capacity of 100 litres 鈥 enough for around 20 flushes.
