Exclusive: Consultant appointed to cost manage major redevelopment of iconic motorsports venue in Florida
Consultant Gleeds has won a high-profile role on the 拢260m redevelopment of one of the world鈥檚 most famous motor racing facilities, the iconic Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida, 黑洞社区 can reveal.
Gleeds was appointed cost manager on the revamp by the International Speedway Corporation, Daytona鈥檚 parent company, with Gleeds responsible for delivering the biggest overhaul of the venue in its 54-year history.
The redevelopment project, called Daytona Rising, has been designed by US architect Rossetti and includes an extended grandstand area with 101,000 new seats, as well as more than 60 new trackside suites for corporate entertaining.
The revamp also includes the creation of 11 new concourse areas, each roughly the size of a standard football pitch, designed to encourage fans to congregate and socialise during events without missing any on-track action, utilising an open-sightline design and dozens of video screens.
Daytona is the US home of motorsports, including the famous Daytona 500 Nascar race.
Richard Steer, chairman of Gleeds Worldwide, said: 鈥淭his project will ensure the long-term viability of the celebrated venue and, when complete, will contribute enormously to the local community and the sport as a whole.鈥
The scheme is expected to complete in January 2016, in time for the 58th Daytona 500.
