Construction work on the PRP-designed site in Chalk Farm is expected to start in January next year
Galliford Try is to build a new residential care block for elderly people in Camden, north London, as part of the local authority’s plans to redevelop its Charlie Ratchford community centre, which offered daytime amenities to the over-60s.
The contractor has signed a development deal with the council to build the £12.6m block (pictured), designed by PRP Architects, which will house 38 extra-care affordable flats.
Construction work on the site in Chalk Farm is expected to start in January next year with completion the following year.
Alongside the residential scheme, Galliford Try will be involved in the redevelopment of the Charlie Ratchford centre site on Belmont Street, which will see the construction of more than 100 new flats once planning is approved. The two developments taken together will provide 50% affordable housing.
The work is part of a 15-year plan by Camden to build new council homes, schools and community facilities.
