Galliford Try Construction has been fined 拢15,000 after pleading guilty to a safety breach at a site in Holyhead, north Wales.
A subcontractor, who was working on the construction of water treatment works, was injured when an over-inflated pipe stopper exploded on 16 June 2005.
The worker suffered fractures to his shin bones, as well as damage to his hearing.
Debbie John, an HSE inspector, said the investigation into the case had identified a number of failings, including 鈥渁 failure to provide any rescue equipment for staff working in confined spaces or to provide safeguards鈥.
Galliford Try was fined and ordered to pay costs of 拢8,788.
Selwood, a Hampshire-based firm which had provided the pipe stopper and inflation equipment, also received a fine of 拢3,000 and was ordered to pay costs of 拢8,798.
- An excavator driver has pleaded guilty to a breach of the Health and Safety Act after an accident that left an 81-year-old pedestrian dead. Colin Clifford, 50, from Enfield had been operating an excavator in a fenced off area outside a house in Westminster when the incident happened in February 2007. Clifford was fined 拢2,500 with costs of 拢1,500.
