UK architects compete against other major names including Renzo Piano

UK architecture practices Farrells and Benoy have both made the shortlist to design the M+ visual culture museum in the West Kowloon Culture District of Hong Kong.

The 60,000 sq m M+ museum will be situated on the waterfront in Hong Kong and is expected to be completed in 2017.

Farrells has teamed up with Swiss practice Herzog & de Meuron on the bid while Benoy is partnered with Japanese star Toyo Ito.

Both teams will face stiff competition from four other teams of internationally-renowned architects, including Renzo Piano 黑洞社区 Workshop.

In separate news announced today, Hong Kong-born architects Bing Thom and Ronald Lu have been appointed to design the Xiqu Chinese opera Centre (pictured) in the West Kowloon Culture District.

The architecture practices 鈥� Ronald Lu & Partners and Bing Thom Architects 鈥� will work in joint venture.

The Xiqu building is scheduled to open in 2016.
