More than two thirds of civils firms want the UK to remain part of the European Union, a survey by the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) has found.

Alasdair Reisner, chief executive of CECA, said the survey showed its members were cautious about prime minister David Cameron鈥檚 EU referendum, which will be held before the end of 2017.

He added that the ever widening skills gap means its members 鈥渨elcome the labour market flexibility that comes from the pool of labour from the EU鈥.

鈥淢aking it harder for EU citizens to help meet this challenge will not benefit the country鈥檚 economic and social growth.鈥

The CECA called on the government to 鈥渆nable an honest debate about the real impact upon UK plc鈥 if it leaves the EU.
