A subtle puzzle-like pattern of panels helps Danish bank stand out
Schmidt Hammer Lassen architects has designed this dramatic building for the Br酶rup Sparekasse bank in Fredericia, Denmark.
The 1,600m2 building is cloaked in Corian, a material more usually used for worktops; it鈥檚 the first time it has been used for such an application in Scandinavia.
Architect Klaus Petersen says: 鈥淭he building is characterized by the subtle puzzle-like pattern of panels that provide a homogeneous external fa莽ade that makes the building stand out鈥.
Schmidt Hammer Lassen had initially explored the possibility of achieving the finish using more conventional materials such as ceramic tiles, plaster or aluminium. However the Corian offered a combination of durability, renewability and design flexibility, says the architect.
