The council responsible for delivering the aquatic centre for the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games says the project will be delivered in time for the Games despite its ongoing red-risk rating.

In a report published ahead of a meeting this Thursday of Sandwell council鈥檚 audit and risk assurance committee, the council said the project, which 黑洞社区 revealed was being built by Wates, was on schedule to be 鈥渄elivered in time鈥�.

But it added: 鈥淕iven the reputational importance of the project and the multi-faceted nature of the stakeholders involved, at this time it is prudent for the project risk to remain assessed as red.鈥�

The report also revealed that all positions within the project team had been filled and were scheduled to be in post by the end of 2018 and that the council was 鈥渨orking closely with all major stakeholders to agree on the design solution for the new aquatics centre with a decision to be made soon鈥�.

Cllr Steve Eling told 黑洞社区 the council would begin a wider public consultation on the pool in the coming months 鈥� although a consultation with residents local to Londonderry Playing Fields, the proposed site of the venue, are already underway.
