Austrian architects open High School #9 in downtown LA
Coop Himmelb(l)au, the Austrian practice founded by Wolf Prix, has completed High School #9 in Los Angeles.
A visual and performing arts school located on Grand Avenue in downtown LA, the building features a 1,000-seat theatre, and seven school buildings for the 1,800 pupils.

Coop Himmelb(l)au’s designs are in keeping with the imaginative nature of the school’s teachings, managing to be both fun and futuristic. A pyramid-like pile of glass and steel at the school’s entrance welcomes you to the school, while a looping walkway resembling nothing so much as a waterslide spirals down from an elevated classroom at the summit of a small tower.
