The 拢20m deal will upgrade Ilford and Romford stations
The contract to complete Network Rail鈥檚 upgrade of Crossrail鈥檚 eastern stations has been awarded to VolkerFitzpatrick.
The deal, which is worth almost 拢20m, will upgrade Ilford station in east London and Romford in Essex 鈥 Crossrail鈥檚 eastern terminus.
The job will include improving the entrances and step-free access to accommodate the higher numbers of passengers expected to use the new Elizabeth line services.

The Ilford station job will include a new station building, replacing the existing entrance on Cranbrook Road. This will include an improved ticket hall and new lifts for step-free access from street level to the station platforms.
At Romford, work will include the construction of a new entrance onto The Battis walkway and a better ticket hall, providing improved passenger circulation from the entrance to the platforms. New lifts will provide step-free access to platforms.
Main construction work at Ilford is due to start at the end of the year and expected to finish by the end of 2020.
The construction programme for Romford will be finalised later this autumn.
