The “Constructionarium” training module is now included in 25% of UK civil engineering courses.
The week-long course at the National Construction College in Norfolk started in 2003 with help from Imperial College London. Five years on, seven universities are participating in the course, with 12 signed up for next year.
The course allows student to build small-scale replicas of noted buildings. Students work as project teams, guiding their buildings from the bidding stage to completion.
This year, they have been working on a replica of the canopy entrance to Naples airport tube station, designed by Richard Rogers Partnership.
